26Learning of peak detection has later also been tried experimentally, in order to confirm our expectations. Surprisingly, a relatively close match to the multiple-target-wave data set was at first obtained even with small 1-1-1 and 1-2-1 networks, but subsequent analysis showed that this was apparently the result only of “smart” use of other clues, like the combination of height and steepness of the curves in the artificially created time domain target data. Consequently, one has to be careful that one does not introduce, in the training data, some unintended coincidental strong correlation with a behaviour that can be represented by the neural networks.
