People (formerly) involved in the invention, development, exploration, application and commercialization of the tongue display unit (TDU) and its tactile display precursors include Paul Bach-y-Rita, Kurt Kaczmarek, Marwan Estiban, Eliana Sampaio, Amy Nau, Berrie Gerrits, Yohan Payan, Maurice Ptito, John Webster, Willis Tompkins, Anil Raj, Aimee Arnoldussen , Monica Metea, Kevin Siewert, William Seiple, Katherine Schittone (Kathy Schittone), Mike Rosing, Ed Fisher (Edward Fisher), Matt Altenberger, Robert Beckman, Yuri Danilov, Mitchell Tyler, John Comerford, Sona Walter, B. Besta, Kim Skinner, Carrie Nemke, Alex Ferber, Eugenio Forgioni, Rich Hogle (Richard Hogle), Richard Morris, Scott Lederer, Christian Chahine and Ron Kupers. Blind users included Roger Behm, Kevin Jones, Nihal Erkan and Erik Weihenmayer. This is mostly a sensory substitution stub page for now. Note that the BrainPort tongue display is also being marketed for treating vestibular disorders (balance problems). Wicab, Inc. was established in 1998, and in 2007 it had 15 employees. In 2008 they had 20 employees, but in 2010 they appear to have drastically reduced their headcount. Wicab is listed in the  FDA database (search in Establishment Name for Wicab; note that being listed there is unrelated to any approval).
